At Physio Place we care deeply about women’s health. The science of physiotherapy is constantly evolving, and developments in women’s health have merited a special place in this evolution. A common misconception is that physiotherapy is only useful for muscular pain and/or tissue and nerve injuries. This is untrue and physiotherapy can be used to treat several other issues, particularly in the field of women’s health.

Women have to put up with more than their fair share of health problems. Physiotherapy can be used to treat a variety of typical strain issues caused by excess weight, strain due to heavy lifting, and consistent coughing problems.

More directly related to women’s health, physio can be used to treat issues such as menopause, pregnancy, bladder discomfort or pain, incontinence and ageing. While these may seem like an internal organ based issue, ailments can generally point to the muscular system as a culprit.

Pelvic floor muscle training

The pelvic floor is the key to the treatment of a range of women’s health problems. Composed of the muscle fibres of the levator ani and located along the base of the pelvis, the pelvic floor is responsible for supporting all of the pelvic organs, including the bladder, intestines and the uterus.

The pelvic floor can be damaged by pregnancy or repeated strain. A damaged pelvic floor can lead to incontinence and a host of other bladder issues. At Physio Place we have developed a comprehensive program in order to strengthen the pelvic floor and eradicate related ailments.
